Primrose Valley
Haven's biggest Yorkshire park — thousands of families, one beach, and more lost car keys than anywhere else on the coast. We're there within 20 minutes.
The Park Where Keys Go to Disappear
Primrose Valley is Haven's flagship Yorkshire park and one of the biggest holiday parks in the UK. It sits right on the coast south of Filey, with direct beach access, four swimming pools, a funfair, an aerial adventure course, and thousands of caravans spread across the site. During peak season, the population of Primrose Valley rivals a small town — and car key emergencies happen here daily.
We know Primrose Valley well. We know the entrance off the A165, the main drag past the reception, the maze of roads through the caravan pitches, and the car park by the LakeHouse Complex. We've unlocked cars in the Pool car park, replaced lost keys at static caravans, and rescued families who've driven from Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, and Newcastle — only to find themselves stranded because a car key fell out of a beach bag somewhere between the surf and the amusements.
The most common scenario: a family arrives on Saturday, unloads the car, and by Sunday afternoon the key has vanished. It's been dropped on the beach, left in the swimming pool changing rooms, or — and this happens more often than you'd think — put in the caravan fridge with the milk and eggs (muscle memory, apparently). The spare key is sitting in a kitchen drawer 100 miles away. They're not getting home without us.
The Vauxhall Mokka and the Beach Bag
A family from Wakefield had been at Primrose Valley for 48 hours when mum realised the Vauxhall Mokka's key wasn't in her handbag. She'd taken it to the beach in a tote bag the previous afternoon — the key had slipped through a hole in the lining and buried itself in the sand. The tide had come in since. We were on site within 20 minutes, supplied and programmed a new Mokka remote key at their caravan, and de-programmed the lost one from the car's immobiliser. They didn't miss a single day of their holiday.
The Ford Kuga and the Swimming Pool Locker
Dad took the kids to the pool complex and put the Ford Kuga smart key in his shorts pocket before putting the shorts in a locker. When they came back, he grabbed the shorts but the key wasn't in the pocket — it had slipped out onto the locker room floor while he was changing. They retraced their steps but the key had been kicked under a bench by passing foot traffic. By the time security found it the next day, we'd already supplied and programmed a new Kuga key at the pool car park. The kids didn't even notice anything was wrong.
The Nissan Qashqai and the Fridge
A couple from Nottingham arrived on Friday evening with their Nissan Qashqai. After unloading the shopping into the caravan fridge, the wife noticed on Saturday morning that the car key was missing. They searched everywhere — the bedroom, the living area, the car itself. It was her husband who finally checked the fridge. There it was, sitting next to the butter, having been put there with the milk at 9pm the night before. The key worked perfectly — it had just been chilling at 4°C for 12 hours. No new key needed, just a laugh and a story they'll be telling for years.
The VW Tiguan and the Snapped Emergency Blade
A dad from Sheffield was packing up to leave on check-out day. His VW Tiguan's key fob battery had died overnight, so he tried the emergency key blade hidden inside the fob to unlock the door manually. The blade — never used in five years — was corroded at the base and snapped in the lock. He was now locked out with a packed car, a checkout deadline, and a three-hour drive ahead. We extracted the broken blade, opened the Tiguan without damage, replaced the fob battery, and cut a new emergency blade — all in under 40 minutes. They checked out on time.
