Once we're on our way, you don't need to do anything except wait. Our van is a mobile workshop — key-cutting machines, diagnostic programmers, transponder chips, key blanks for all major manufacturers, and specialist entry tools. Whatever your car key problem is, there's a very good chance we can fix it at your location in a single visit. No recovery truck, no dealership appointment, no waiting for parts. We've been doing this in Scarborough for years, and we've seen practically every key disaster a car can throw at you.

Locked out of the car. The most common reason we hear from — keys locked in the boot, lost on the way back from the supermarket, dropped down a drain, or simply forgotten on the kitchen table. Whatever the cause, the result is the same: you need to get into your car, and you need to do it now. We use non-destructive entry methods for almost every vehicle, so your door, lock and paintwork stay completely intact. The unlock usually takes 15 to 30 minutes from our arrival.

Lost the only key. A bigger problem than a lockout because you can't just unlock the car — you also need a new key cut and programmed to your immobiliser. Modern keys contain a transponder chip that has to be coded to your specific vehicle before the engine will start. We cut and programme keys at your location for the vast majority of cars on UK roads. The whole process typically takes 45 minutes to an hour, including cutting the blade, programming the chip, and testing that the key starts the car.

Broken or snapped key. Keys snap in ignition barrels surprisingly often, especially older keys that have worn thin. If part of the key is still in the ignition, we can usually extract it without damaging the barrel. If the key has snapped off in a door lock, the same applies. Once we've removed the broken piece, we cut you a fresh key on the spot. Most snap-outs take under 30 minutes.

Key fob not working. If your remote fob has stopped locking or unlocking the car, the most common cause is a dead battery — we can replace CR2032, CR2025 and other common fob batteries in seconds. If it's not the battery, the fob may need re-programming or repair. Either way, we can diagnose the issue on site and either fix it or supply a replacement.

Spare key before it's needed. A surprisingly large proportion of our calls are from people who haven't had an emergency yet — they just want a spare key made before they lose their only one. This is the most cost-effective time to call us: a spare key costs less than an emergency replacement, and you avoid the stress and cost of being locked out at 2am on a Tuesday. We'd much rather meet you on a Tuesday afternoon than at midnight in a supermarket car park.

Stolen keys. If your keys have been stolen, we can re-program your car's immobiliser so the old keys no longer work. This is sometimes called "key deletion" or "immobiliser reset" — it stops anyone with the stolen key from being able to start the car. It's a job that has to be done quickly after a theft, so if this is why you're calling, mention it and we'll prioritise.
