A peaceful, well-kept park on Scarborough's southern edge — Sea Life Centre next door, Oliver's Mount nearby, and the fastest response time of any park we cover.
Scarborough's Closest Park
Jacobs Mount is a small, independently-run holiday park on the southern edge of Scarborough, practically next door to the Sea Life Centre. It's a touring and camping site with a handful of static caravans, a shop, a play area, and a reputation for being well-kept and friendly. It doesn't try to compete with the big Haven resorts — it's a different proposition entirely, aimed at people who want a quieter base for exploring Scarborough rather than a self-contained entertainment complex.
For us, Jacobs Mount is the closest holiday park we cover — we're usually there within 10 minutes. That proximity means we've handled everything here: lockouts at 2am after a night in town, keys lost on the walk back from the Sea Life Centre, and a particularly memorable incident involving a motorhome, a cat, and an accidentally-deadlocked side door. The park staff know us by name.
The Fiat Ducato Motorhome, the Cat, and the Deadlock
A retired couple from Sheffield were touring the Yorkshire coast in their Fiat Ducato motorhome — a proper expedition-spec conversion they'd had for years. They were parked up at Jacobs Mount and had stepped out to walk to the shop. Their cat, a large ginger tom called Colin, was inside the motorhome. As they shut the habitation door, Colin — startled by the noise — jumped onto the dashboard. His paw landed on the central locking button. The motorhome deadlocked itself. Keys on the dashboard. Cat sitting on them. We arrived in 8 minutes, opened the Ducato without damage, and Colin looked at us like we'd ruined his afternoon. The owners bought us a box of biscuits.
The Mini Cooper and the Sea Life Centre Walk
A young couple from Newcastle were staying at Jacobs Mount for a weekend and walked over to the Sea Life Centre — it's literally next door. He'd put the Mini Cooper key in his hoodie pocket, but the pocket had a hole in it. Somewhere between the penguin enclosure and the otter feeding, the key worked its way through the hole, down the inside of his hoodie, and out the bottom onto the floor of the Seal Hospital. A staff member found it and handed it in to reception — but by then the couple had already walked back to the car park, realised the key was gone, and called us. We opened the Mini and cut a new emergency key in 15 minutes. They collected the original from Sea Life reception the next morning. Now they have a spare.
