The Clifftop Hideaway

Crows Nest is a smaller, independent holiday park perched on the cliff edge just south of Filey Brigg. It doesn't have the water slides or entertainment complexes of the big chains — and that's exactly why people book it. The views across Filey Bay are the selling point, and the coastal path to Filey Brigg starts practically at the gate. It's popular with walkers, birdwatchers, and couples who want a quieter break than the Haven parks can offer.

The exposed clifftop location is part of the appeal — and part of the reason we get called here. Windy days mean jackets stay zipped, but on calm summer evenings people walk the path with keys in loose pockets. We've retrieved keys from the cliffside undergrowth and replaced keys that went over the edge into the brambles below. Filey Brigg is a stunning walk — but it's a terrible place to lose a car key.

The Mazda CX-5 and the Brigg Walk

A couple from Nottingham staying at Crows Nest decided to walk out to Filey Brigg at sunset. He put the Mazda CX-5 key in the pocket of his lightweight walking trousers — the kind with shallow pockets that look fine but lose things if you bend over. Somewhere along the Brigg path, while crouching to photograph a cormorant, the key slipped out. They retraced their steps for an hour but the path is rough grass and rock — a small black remote is basically invisible. We were on site within 25 minutes, programmed a new CX-5 key at their caravan, and they drove home the next morning. The original key may still be on Filey Brigg.

The Audi A4 and the Fishing Trip

A father and son from Sheffield booked Crows Nest specifically to fish off Filey Brigg. They packed their tackle, rods, bait, and set off before dawn. The Audi A4 key was in the dad's tackle bag — a canvas shoulder bag with no zip on the main compartment. After a successful morning catching mackerel, they returned to the car to find the key had bounced out of the bag somewhere between the caravan and the fishing spot. We were called at 7am and had a new Audi key programmed by 7:45am. They were gutted about losing the key but not about the mackerel — six good-sized ones, they said.
