Why Van Keys Are Different

A "van key replacement near me" search usually means you've hit a few dead ends already. Here's what makes van keys harder — and why we can still do them.

Different blade types

Some vans use the same laser-cut blades as cars. Others — older Transits, some Renault Masters — use a different key profile (Tibbe keys, dimple keys, etc.) that a standard key-cutting machine can't handle unless it's set up specifically for them. Our machine is.

Immobiliser systems vary by generation

A 2010 Transit has a different immobiliser system from a 2023 Transit Custom. We carry the diagnostic kit to read both, and we know which generation your van is from the reg number.

Commercial vehicle key blanks are less common

The high-street key cutter doesn't stock Transit or Sprinter blanks — they stock house keys. We carry van-specific blanks because that's half our call-outs.

It's more urgent

A lost car key is inconvenient. A lost van key means you're not earning. We prioritise working vehicles — if you're a tradesman with a Transit full of tools and the key's gone, you go to the front of the queue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you replace a van key, or is it dealer-only?

We replace van keys for all the major UK van makes — Ford Transit, Vauxhall Vivaro, Mercedes Sprinter, VW Transporter, Renault Master, Citroën Relay, Peugeot Boxer, Fiat Ducato, and more. Vans use similar immobiliser systems to cars; we carry the diagnostic kit and key blanks to do it mobile. The only exception is some very new models where the manufacturer hasn't released the security access to the independent market yet — we'll tell you honestly on the phone whether yours is one of them.

How much does a replacement van key cost?

Van keys are typically slightly more than car keys because the blanks are less common. Basic non-remote Transit key: from £85. Remote fob for a Transit Custom / Vivaro / Transporter: £150–£220. Smart key for a Sprinter or new Transporter: £200–£350. All prices include call-out, cutting, programming, and a VAT receipt.

My van key is different from my car key — can you still do it?

Yes. Van keys often use a different blade profile (e.g., Ford Transit uses a Tibbe key, some older Transits use the red 'crystal' key, Mercedes Sprinters use a flip-out blade with an immobiliser chip). We carry blanks for all of these and have the cutting and programming equipment to handle them.

I've lost the only key to my work van — can you get me back on the road today?

Yes. This is urgent — a van off the road is lost income. We prioritise working-van call-outs and carry van-specific key blanks. Like a car, we read the immobiliser through the OBD port, generate a new key, cut the blade, and programme the chip. 45–90 minutes and you're back at work.

Do you do fleet vans with multiple drivers?

Yes. We supply and programme multiple keys for fleet vans, all coded to the same vehicle. If you have a fleet of Transits or Vivaros and need spare keys for each, call us — we can do them all in one visit and provide a single invoice.

Van Off the Road?

Lost van key, broken van key, or van locked with the keys inside. Call us for a fixed price and an ETA — we'll get you back to work same day.
