What's the difference between an auto locksmith and a regular locksmith?
An auto locksmith (or automotive locksmith) specialises in vehicle locks and immobiliser systems. A general locksmith does houses, commercial doors, and padlocks — and will usually tell you to take the car to a dealer. We do cars all day, every day. We carry automotive diagnostic equipment — key-programming tablets, OBD readers, transponder chips, key-cutting machines — that a general locksmith doesn't.
Can you make a key for any car?
Almost any. We cover every major make — Ford, Vauxhall, VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Peugeot, Citroën, Renault, Land Rover, Jaguar, Volvo, Kia, Hyundai, Suzuki, Mazda, and more. The only ones we sometimes can't do are very rare classic cars where the immobiliser system is proprietary and the key blanks aren't available. Yes — pre-1998 cars without transponder chips are actually simpler. We cut the key from the VIN or from the lock code. A basic metal key for an older car starts at £55.
