Ford Focus Key
Replacement in Scarborough
The Ford Focus is everywhere in Scarborough — and so are Focus key problems. We cut and programme Focus and Fiesta keys for every generation at your location.
Tibbe Keys, Remote Flips, and Smart Keys
The Ford Focus has been one of Britain's best-selling cars for over 20 years, and Ford's key systems have changed significantly across those generations. The Mk1 and Mk2 Focus used Ford's distinctive Tibbe key — a cylindrical key with angled cuts around the barrel. It's a unique design that requires specialist cutting equipment, but we've had the Tibbe machine in the van for years.
The Mk3 Focus (2011–2018) moved to a conventional laser-cut blade with a remote flip key — the metal blade folds into the plastic fob. The current Mk4 Focus (2018 onwards) can use either a flip remote or a proximity smart key depending on trim. We stock blanks, remotes, and smart keys for every variant, and we programme them at the roadside.
A tip for Focus owners: if your remote unlock stops working but the blade still unlocks the door, the fault is almost always the remote fob battery or a failed microswitch — not the car. Don't pay for a diagnostic you don't need. We can test your key on the spot and tell you in 30 seconds whether it's the fob or the car.

Story from the Road
The Focus, the Fob, and the Flat Battery
A nurse from Filey was finishing a long shift at Scarborough Hospital — 12 hours on her feet, and all she wanted was to get home. She walked to her 2016 Ford Focus in the staff car park, pressed the unlock button on her remote fob, and nothing happened. No indicators, no clunk, no welcome lights. The fob was dead.
She used the emergency key blade hidden inside the fob to unlock the driver's door manually — but the car still wouldn't start. The Focus Mk3 uses a PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) immobiliser, and with the remote fob completely dead, the car couldn't read the transponder chip. She was stuck in the hospital car park at 8pm in the dark.
She called us at 8:10pm. We reached the hospital car park by 8:30pm. The fix was simple — we opened the fob, replaced the dead CR2032 battery, and the car recognised the key instantly. But we also tested the transponder chip to make sure it hadn't been damaged (it was fine), and cut her a spare non-remote key blade programmed to the immobiliser so she'd always have a backup. The whole job took 20 minutes and cost a fraction of what a recovery truck plus dealer would have been.
