Why Volvo Keys Need Proper Programming
Volvo has a faithful following in North Yorkshire — the XC90 and XC40 are a familiar sight on the school run and the A64, and the V60 estate is a natural fit for country families. Modern Volvos use rolling-code immobiliser chips. The key isn't a plain chip you can clone at a kiosk: it has to be programmed into the car's immobiliser with the right diagnostic kit, and the remote code has to be made to roll with the vehicle.
That's a job for a locksmith with the right kit, done at the car. No need to recover a Volvo to a dealership, no weeks-long wait for a factory key. I read the immobiliser through the OBD port and finish the job in your driveway, usually within the hour or two.
The XC90 — The Family Favourite
The XC90 is Volvo's most popular model in the UK and a big, heavy, secure thing to be without a key for. The rolling-code system has evolved over the generations, but the approach is the same: read the immobiliser, generate a matching transponder, program the key, pair the remote. Whether it's an older XC90 or a current proximity-fob one, I program the lot.
