Toyota Yaris Cross — All Keys Lost
in Scarborough
This call-out was a 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross in black, on a residential street in Scarborough. The owner had lost the only smart key — no spare, no dealer key on the way. I drove out, read the immobiliser through the OBD port, cut and programmed a brand-new smart fob on the spot, and had them back on the road the same day.

Real photo taken on the day — the new Toyota smart key in front of the customer's Yaris Cross in Scarborough. No stock photos, no marketing shots.
Why a Lost Smart Key Isn't a Dealer-Only Job
The Yaris Cross doesn't have a mechanical key you can copy at a kiosk — it uses a keyless smart fob that talks to the car wirelessly, with a blade hidden inside for emergencies. Losing the only one can feel like a dealer-only problem, but it isn't. With the right diagnostic kit, a brand-new smart fob can be programmed to the car's immobiliser entirely on site.
The only documents I need are your V5C logbook and a photo ID to confirm ownership. From there I read the immobiliser through the OBD port, cut the hidden blade to the lock, programme the smart chip, and sync the remote to the central locking — all in a single visit, no recovery truck and no waiting days for a key in the post.
Newer Toyotas, No Problem
The Yaris Cross is one of the newest Toyota models on British roads, and its keyless system is the direction every manufacturer is heading. I carry the kit for the current Toyota smart-key range — Yaris Cross, Corolla, C-HR, RAV4 — so the newest car on the drive isn't any harder than an older one, just a different chip.
